At DermaCutis Clinic in Sheffield, we offer advanced vascular laser treatments using the Cutera Excel V+, a medical-grade laser system designed to target unwanted blood vessels, facial redness and selected pigmentation concerns.
Whether you are troubled by persistent facial redness, rosacea, visible thread veins or vascular skin lesions, the Excel V+ offers a precise, non-surgical approach to improving the appearance of your skin.
All treatments are carried out under the care of Dr Sophie Gaikwad, Consultant Dermatologist, ensuring that your skin concerns are accurately assessed and your treatment is tailored to your individual needs.
The Cutera Excel V+ is an advanced medical laser system that combines two wavelengths of light to treat a wide range of vascular and selected pigmented
skin concerns.
The system uses:
By combining these two wavelengths, the Excel V+ allows treatment to be customised according to the size, depth and nature of the blood vessels being targeted.
The system also offers Laser Genesis, a gentle, non-ablative treatment designed to improve overall skin appearance, including background redness and skin texture, with minimal downtime.
Persistent facial redness and visible blood vessels are common features of rosacea.
The Excel V+ can selectively target these blood vessels, helping to reduce background redness and improve the appearance of the skin.
Treatment can be particularly beneficial for patients experiencing persistent redness across the cheeks, nose and chin.
Although laser treatment cannot cure rosacea, it can provide a significant improvement in its vascular features. Maintenance treatments may be required.
Thread veins, also known as telangiectasia, are small, visible blood vessels commonly found around the nose, cheeks and chin.
The Excel V+ delivers targeted laser energy to these vessels, causing them to close and gradually become less visible.
Some vessels may respond after a single session, although further treatments are sometimes necessary.
Spider naevi are small vascular lesions characterised by a central red spot with fine blood vessels radiating outwards.
The Excel V+ can precisely target these vessels, often producing an excellent cosmetic improvement with relatively few treatment sessions.
Cherry angiomas are common, benign vascular growths that appear as small red or purple spots, often on the trunk, arms and legs.
These can be treated using targeted laser energy, frequently with a good response after one or two sessions.
Prominent blue or green veins around the eyes can sometimes be treated using the 1064nm Nd wavelength.
These treatments require particularly careful assessment because of the delicate anatomy around the eyes. Not all veins or patients are suitable for laser treatment.
The Excel V+ can also be used for certain superficial pigmentation concerns.
However, not all pigmented lesions are suitable for laser treatment. A dermatological assessment is important to establish the diagnosis and exclude any suspicious skin lesions before considering treatment.
Selected vascular birthmarks, including some port-wine stains, may be suitable for laser treatment. Small legs veins can also be treated (not varicose veins).
The choice of laser settings and likely response depend on the characteristics, depth and location of the vascular lesion. Multiple sessions are usually required.
Laser Genesis is a gentle, non-ablative laser treatment that delivers controlled heating within the skin.
It may help to improve:
Laser Genesis generally involves minimal downtime, making it a suitable option for patients who prefer a more gradual improvement without significant disruption to their daily activities.
A course of treatments is usually recommended for optimal results.
At DermaCutis, we believe that successful laser treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis and a personalised treatment plan.
Consultant Dermatologist-led care
Your treatment is overseen by Dr Sophie Gaikwad, a Consultant Dermatologist with almost 15 years of experience in dermatology and additional training in laser and aesthetic treatments.
Advanced dual-wavelength technology
The Excel V+ combines two complementary wavelengths, allowing treatment of both superficial and selected deeper vascular concerns.
Personalised treatment
Laser settings are carefully selected according to your skin type, the nature of your skin concern and your individual treatment goals.
Medical expertise and safety
As a specialist dermatology clinic, we can assess whether your skin concern is suitable for laser treatment or whether an alternative medical or procedural treatment would be more appropriate.
Before treatment, we will assess your skin, discuss your concerns and medical history, and explain the most appropriate treatment options.
A test patch may be recommended depending on your skin type and the treatment being considered.
Your skin will be cleansed and appropriate protective eyewear provided. Laser settings will be selected according to the area and condition being treated.
The laser delivers short pulses of light to the targeted blood vessels or skin.
You may experience a brief snapping or warming sensation during treatment. The Excel V+ incorporates a cooling system to help protect the skin and improve comfort.
Following treatment, you may experience temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling.
You will receive personalised aftercare advice, including guidance on skincare, sun protection and when to resume your usual activities.
Downtime depends on the type and intensity of laser treatment performed.
For many patients, redness and mild swelling settle within 24–72 hours, although some treatments can result in more prolonged swelling, bruising or temporary darkening of the treated vessels.
Laser Genesis typically involves minimal downtime.
We generally recommend:
The number of treatments depends on the skin concern being treated, the extent of the vascular changes and your individual response. Typically 2-3 treatments are required for the standard Excel V+ 'cool view' treatment, and 3-6 treatments
for laser genesis.
Sessions are commonly spaced several weeks apart, allowing time for the skin to recover and the treatment response to be assessed.
Many successfully treated blood vessels can remain closed for a prolonged period.
However, new vessels may develop over time, particularly in patients with rosacea, sun damage or an underlying tendency towards facial redness.
Maintenance treatments may therefore be beneficial for some patients.
Regular sun protection and appropriate skincare can help support
longer-lasting results.
The Excel V+ is a well-established medical laser system, but as with any laser treatment, there are potential risks.
Common temporary effects include:
Less common complications include blistering, burns, changes in skin pigmentation
and, rarely, scarring.
Appropriate patient selection, careful treatment planning and adherence to aftercare advice are important in reducing these risks.
Not everyone is suitable for treatment. Active skin infections, recent tanning, certain medications and some underlying skin conditions may require treatment to be postponed or an alternative approach considered. We do not treat during pregnancy.
Your individual risks and expected outcomes will be discussed during your
consultation.
If you are concerned about facial redness, rosacea, thread veins or other vascular or pigmented skin lesions, we would be delighted to help.
At DermaCutis, our Consultant Dermatologist-led approach combines specialist medical expertise with advanced laser technology to provide safe,
personalised treatment.
